| The Relics Center |
![]() The Relics Center of The Memorial Shrine was a wooden Korean building that was constructed by Chungcheongnam-Do on April 27, 1962. It¡¯s on the left side inside the Chunguimun. The relics including, ¡°The War Diary¡± of the Admiral Yi,¡± were first opened to the public at that time. The Education Committee of Chungcheongnam-Do built a new concrete relics center, with a gabled style Korean roof, when ¡°The War Diary¡± was stolen on Dec. 31, 1967, it comprises of about 70 m2 on the underground floor and the same dimension on the first floor. It is located in the same location. The moisture wasn¡¯t properly controlled in this relics center because of a change in the sanctification project on Sep. 9, 1968. This resulted in it being cleared out. Hyundai Engineering and Construction has built and donated the Seokjojeon since then. The slab structure was made with reinforced iron and concrete. In April 1974, the building was renovated with Korean blue tiles to illustrate the traditional landscape. The exterior of the building was re-painted and finally the current appearance was completed. The Relics Center presently displays 100 items. They include: 9 items from national treasure no. 76, which contains 7 volumes of ¡°The War Diary¡±, 1 volume of ¡°The Imjin Jangcho,¡± which is a collection of letters, 6 items from national treasure no. 326, which is two swords, 1 Yodae, 1 Okro and 1 pair of Dobae, as well as other relics that are not designated as the treasures. |
